Acting on the information, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sulayman Darboe led a team of officers to the premises, where the individuals were found and subsequently taken to Banjul Police Station for further investigation.
The 17 individuals, all male, comprise six Gambians, nine Senegalese and two Malian nationals.
Preliminary information suggested that the group may have been preparing for a possible irregular sea journey. However, investigations remain ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding their presence at the location and verify the information received.
