The Police secured the conviction of Momodou Lamin Baldeh in a stealing case before the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, following legal proceedings that commenced in August 2024.
Baldeh was charged with one count of stealing, contrary to Section 252 of the Criminal Code, after initially pleading not guilty when the matter was first mentioned before the court on August 20, 2024.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, the court found the accused guilty and ordered him to pay a fine of D100,000, in default to serve one year imprisonment. He was further ordered to restore D12,575,000, in default to serve four years imprisonment.
Following his inability to satisfy the orders of the court, the convict was subsequently committed to Mile II Central Prisons to serve the custodial sentence imposed by the court.
The Gambia Police Force will continue to pursue criminal offences through professional investigation and due process, while working with relevant institutions to ensure that offenders are held accountable in accordance with the law.
