At Wellingara, the police are investigating an alleged murder involving Nyakassi Jawneh, an adult resident who was found motionless in her bed. The incident was reported on January 31, 2025.
A team of investigators and forensic officers visited the scene to gather evidence surrounding the circumstances of the alleged murder.
The body has been transported to the EFSTH mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Elsewhere, the Serekunda Police are investigating an alleged murder involving two siblings in Dippa Kunda on Friday, January 31, 2025.
The suspect, Fatoumata Bintou Jallow, 18, has been arrested and is cooperating with investigators in connection with the alleged murder of her brother, Abdou Rahman Jallow, 21 (now deceased). She remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
As part of the inquiry, Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) of the Gambia Police Force visited the crime scene early this morning, Saturday, February 1, 2025, to reconstruct the scene and gather evidence. During the process, investigators recovered the suspected murder weapon (a knife).
The body has been transferred to EFSTH for possible postmortem examination.
At Sinchu Malado, the Brikamaba Police are investigating an alleged murder that occurred on Friday, January 31, 2025.
The suspect, Haddy Boye, 21, has been arrested and remains in police custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of her husband, Karamo Jobe, 40.
As part of the investigation, Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) visited the scene, reconstructed the events, and recovered the alleged murder weapon (a knife).
The victim's body has been escorted to Bansang Hospital for further examination.
The Nema Kunku Police are also investigating a case of baby dumping after a deceased infant was discovered along the Nema-Su roadside.
The police are collaborating with public health officials and other relevant stakeholders as investigations continue.
Fire incidents
The Deputy Inspector General of Police Momodou Sowe, joined fellow security chiefs in the early hours of Friday to assess the damage caused by a fire outbreak at Brikama “Sandika” Market on January 31, 2025. The blaze destroyed numerous stalls and goods, though no casualties were reported.
The police announced they would investigate the incident to determine the cause and recommend preventive measures.
Among the high-ranking officials present were Interior Minister Abdoulie Sanyang, National Security Adviser Abubacarr Sulayman Jeng, Brikama Area Council Chairman Yankuba Darboe, other security chiefs, and senior central and local government officials.
At GTSC, police have confirmed that the fire at GTSC Depot resulted from sparks caused by a scrap metal dealer using a grinder on a scrapped bus around 13:00hrs.
The fire spread through dry grass, leading to 11 buses completely burnt and 4 partially damaged. All affected buses had already been auctioned as scrap.
The Fire Service extinguished the blaze, and the scene was visited by CID and CSI for further investigation.
