NA to hold extraordinary session on sale of Jammeh’s assets

Gambian lawmakers are going to hold an extraordinary session on Wednesday and Thursday this week to discuss a motion to establish a parliamentary inquiry into the controversial sale of the assets of the former president Yahya Jammeh following public outrage caused by an investigative report published by The Republic on April 30.

A statement released by The Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly informs the public that the National Assembly will convene for an Extra-Ordinary Session in the 2025 Legislative Year on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15t May, 2025 at 10:00am daily to consider a Motion to Establish A Special Select Committee to conduct an inquiry into the Sales and Disposal of Assets and Properties of former President Yahya Jammeh.

This motion was submitted by the Majority Leader Hon Bilay Tunkara, member for Kantora.

“In wake of the serious revelations regarding the alleged inappropriate sales of the assets of former President YahyaJammeh, I have today submitted a formal notice of intention to the Clerk of the National Assembly to introduce a motion in the National Assembly for the Assembly to consider establishing a Special Select Committee to impartially conduct a full inquiry into the matter with a view to establishing the whole truth,” Tunkara said in a statement.

He added that the Clerk’s Office has been directed to assist in preparing the motion, which is expected to be tabled during the Assembly’s upcoming June session.

“My office, together with all the members supporting this initiative, shall do all it takes to pursue the matter to its conclusion for the interest of transparency and accountability,” he affirmed.
