Alagie Jitteh, a security guard working under the municipal police unit of the Kanifing Municipality, has admitted before the Local Government Commission of Inquiry that he made several deposits in the private account of the Serrekunda Market Manager.

Jitteh said he began working at the KMC on 1st October 2019. He did not come with his appointment letter and the confirmation letter but promised to tender them to the Commission the following day. His written statement, dated 8 July 2024, was tendered and admitted in evidence.

He explained that he was posted at the car park in Serrekunda. He said that while at work, Modou Njie used to call him from his post to come to the market. He explained that when he arrived, Njie would give him cash with his account number to deposit at the Trust Bank account. He said he used to deposit at least D10,000 and sometimes Twenty Thousand Dalasis (D20,000) or more.

The Commission noted that the deposits totalled to a whopping D310,000. “Yes, if you add the entire deposit, it is up to this amount,” he conceded.
