President Adama Barrow over the weekend reiterated government's commitment to ensuring that there is no impunity for crimes committed on Gambian soil.

Emphasising his administration's resolve to ensure justice and healing, the president stated that his government is transitioning from the policy formulation phase to implementation.

President made the disclosure over the weekend during the opening of the Legal Year 2025 by the Gambian judiciary at the Law Court Complex in Banjul.

The president delved into the support his government has rendered for the establishment of a tribunal to prosecute some of these serious crimes and bring about justice.

On separation of powers within the government of The Gambia, the President said: "In this mission to promote and ensure good governance, rule of law and democracy by maintaining a clear separation of powers, we have significantly improved the independence of the judiciary, thereby restoring public confidence in our legal institutions. The establishment of additional courts and the appointments of highly qualified judges are concrete steps to delivering justice impartially and safely."

The President commended the Judiciary for the initiatives they have taken over these years, such as the installation of recording tools and softwares at the High Court in Banjul, and the staging of trainings for district tribunals.
