Chargé d'affaires Zhou Ningyu  at the embassy of the People’s Republic of China in The Gambia has re-echoed that his country puts people first in pursuing development.

China completed the arduous task of eradicating absolute poverty in 2021, realising the poverty reduction target of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, 10 years ahead of schedule, he said on Wednesday night at the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China marked with a reception at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo.

“China has established the world’s largest system of education, social security and medical care, and continues to improve the ecological environment,” he said, adding that China “commits to peaceful development and stands as a staunch force” for peace, stability, development and prosperity in the world.

“The vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind points out the right direction for human society, and leads a path towards lasting peace and security, and common development,” he stated.

In July this year, he said, the 3rd Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of CPC was successfully held in Beijing, at which “the Resolution of the CPC on Further Deepening Reform Comprehensively to Advance Chinese Modernization was adopted, formulating the grand blueprint of advancing Chinese modernization by further deepening reform comprehensively, and advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese modernization”.

He added that China is committed to promoting the high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and would open its commodity, services, capital, and labour markets to the outside world in an orderly manner and unilaterally further open its markets to the world’s least developed countries.

China remains firm in pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace and is dedicated to promoting a human community with a shared future,  Mr Zhou said, adding: “We will stay committed to the common values of all humanity, implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, and called for an equal and orderly multipolar world, and universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation.

“China, on the path of Chinese modernization, will provide more certainty for the world with its own stability, and bring more new opportunities with its new development.”
