This year's NUP biennial non-elective national congress attracted party delegates from across the country in fulfillment of the electoral requirements and laws of the country that requires all political parties to hold a biennial congress in filling the positions of national executive members.
Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh, the secretary general and party leader of the NUP, said his party prides itself in being unique and unlike any operating conventional political party in The Gambia. “Our principal objective is to usher in meaningful change to The Gambia underpinned on the values of promoting democratic values, accountability, transparency and good governance,” he said.
Therefore, he went on, the main aim of the congress is to inform the delegates on the intended policies and programs of the party that are meant to transform The Gambia and put it on a pedestal of hope.
Mr Jammeh informed his supporters that the party is growing bigger hence they should now be focusing on its development by promoting its policies and programmes to resonate with the well-being of the Gambian people.
He thanked all delegates from across the country for attending the congress and listening to the party’s achievements and its way forward.
Adama Manjang, a senior member of the party, dilated on the importance of the congress, saying it happened at a time the Gambian people are finding it difficult to put food on the table due to the economic hardship in the country.
He called on the party supporters to work hard with an open mind as they look forward to the 2026 presidential elections, when they would have the opportunity to vote massively for the NUP in order to salvage the country from its current economic predicament.
He advised the party militants to distance themselves from hate speech and castigation because everybody in the country are related in one way or the other and politics should not divide the people because it comes and goes while the people remain.
Aja Mam Fatou Nyassi, the national women mobiliser of NUP advised her fellow women to come together and support NUP because “it is the party that can bring change to the country through its policies and programmes”.
