Early in his career, Mr. Jagne was honoured to serve as note taker to the late Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, former President of The Gambia, during Jawara’s tenure as Chairman of the Islamic Peace Committee on the Iran–Iraq War.
He went on to hold the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs on two occasions and represented The Gambia at the United Nations as Ambassador and Permanent Representative. During this period, he presided over the U.N. Security Council when The Gambia served as a non permanent member.
In 2005, Mr. Jagne joined the United Nations as an international civil servant. He was posted to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as Head of the UN Liaison Office to the African Union, later serving in the Central African Republic as Chief of Staff at the U.N. Mission and subsequently as Coordinator of all field offices. He retired from the United Nations in 2017.
Most recently, Mr. Jagne has been appointed Head of the ECOWAS Delegation to Cabo Verde, tasked with observing the country’s legislative elections scheduled for May 17 2026. ECOWAS has deployed a team of 20 experts from its member states who will remain in Cabo Verde until May 22 to monitor key stages of the electoral process before, during, and after the vote.
