Gov’t signs 4 MoUs with Province of Heilongjiang

His Excellency President Adama Barrow witnessed the signing of four strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between the Government of The Gambia and Province of Heilongjiang in the People’s Republic of China.

The signing ceremony was held at the State House in Banjul to further enhanced bilateral ties and contribute to socio-economic development for the mutual benefit of the two States.

The MOUs signed are as follows:

  1. Agreement on building water facilities and sports facilities. The Minister, Chief of Staff at the President's Office, signed the agreement on behalf of The Gambia. The MOU is part of the government’s broader effort to revitalise the sports sector and provide access to clean water.
  2. An Agreement on free Cataract Surgery will provide patients with free eye operations. The MOU was signed by the Minister for Health Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh and Heilongjiang representative.
  3. MOU of talent exchange and training. The programme is designed to establish the framework for building skills and sharing knowledge. The Secretary to Cabinet and Head of Civil Service signed the agreement on behalf of the Gambian Government.
  4. MOU of providing Non-genetically modified rice seeds. This is part of the Government’s effort to transform the agricultural sector into a vibrant and high yielding sector.

In a separate contractual signing ceremony, Longjian Company signed four contracts with Gambian institutions for construction of a bridge and road maintenance, rice seed production and land rehabilitation.

The two agreements on building the BB bridge at Kotu and road maintenance were signed by the National Road Authority and Longjian Company.

Another MOU on agriculture to enhance seed production was signed by the ROOTs Programme   Director and Longjian.

The fourth Agreement Land rehabilitation to improve rice production was between GIEPA and Longjian Company.

The signing ceremony was followed by a private dinner hosted by H.E. President Adama Barrow.
