Mr Kurang, the former secretary of the defunct Janneh Commission of Inquiry and a member of the United Democratic Party, maintains that statements asserting that "nothing came out of" Darboe's nearly three-decade race to the presidency are "ridiculous" and "myopic".
Kurang doesn't see a presidential race or long years of failed attempts to the presidency. He sees a struggle.
Kurang was quizzed, during an exclusive interview, on whether the UDP-led Gambia First Coalition (GFC) will be a game-changer in the 2026 presidential race, as critics and sceptics underscore that Darboe has been contested severally over the years and "nothing came out of it".
"So do you think this will come as a game-changer to shift the dynamics this time?" this reporter asked.
Kurang responded: "To say nothing came out of it is very myopic. Because of Darboe's 30-year struggle, Adama Barrow is in power. Because of Darboe's struggle for 30 years, Yahya Jammeh is out of power. Because of Darboe's 30-year struggle, there are now mayors and chairmen who even feel that they can be president.
"Because of Darboe's struggle, we have a viable opposition in this country ready to challenge the incumbent. So, to say that Darboe's 30 years is nothing is a very ridiculous statement."
He concluded his argument, saying Abdoulaye Wade, the third President of the Republic of Senegal, spent many years struggling before he took over power in Senegal, and Senegal changed the moment he came to power.
He said UDP will take over in December 2026, and “The Gambia will change forever”, just like Senegal.
