Magistrate Manneh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on the 9th October, 2025, convicted and sentenced 10 women to community service for committing the offence of common nuisance contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025, following their plea of guilt. She ordered them to clean the whole premises of SOS Children’s Village, their toilets, launder the children’s clothes and to plait the children’s hair every day starting from the 9th October, 2025, up to the 16th of the same month, from 9 am to 4 pm. They were required to produce Gambian sureties to secure their availability for the community service. “Since the convicts have nothing to do except roaming in the streets late at night, they can do community service,” the presiding magistrate told the court.

Rejoice Ulebe, Nwachukwa Nazzy, Blessing Ahana, Sofia Amina Muhammed, Benita Simon, Fatoumata Jarra, Kumba Sarr, Mariama Badjie, Ester Jobe and Comfort Odey were arraigned on the same day and charged with common nuisance. According to the police, the convicts unlawfully conducted themselves on the 7th October, 2025, at Kololi, at 1:00 hrs, by staying at the same place without any lawful excuse, a manner inconvenient to the public.
