The case concerning the PIU shooting incident, involving accused persons Ousainou Bojang and Amie Bojang, has been adjourned until Monday. The adjournment was made to allow for the cross-examination of Defence Witness 10 (DW10), as the audio transcription of the conversation between journalist Bakary Mankajang and Mama Jabbi was not yet ready.

When the case was called yesterday, State Counsel Wakawa announced his appearance for the prosecution, while Senior Counsel L. Darboe appeared for the first accused, Ousainou Bojang, and also held brief for Counsel A. Sillah, who represents the second accused, Amie Bojang.

Journalist Bakary Mankajang, listed as Defence Witness 10 (DW10), was present in court and expected to continue with his evidence-in-chief, followed by cross-examination by the State. However, Senior Counsel Darboe informed the court that the audio transcription of a conversation involving journalist Bakary Mankajang, translated from Mandinka to English, was not yet ready.

When asked whether he could proceed with questioning the witness on behalf of Counsel Sillah, Darboe responded: “I wouldn’t be able to hold brief to the extent of questioning my own witness.”

He added: “In these circumstances, we would request an adjournment. It’s not something we wanted. However, it would be prudent to wait for the transcription of the audio.”

Meanwhile, Counsel Wakawa informed the court that he had numerous questions for the witness. However, due to the absence of Counsel Sillah, the cross-examination could not proceed.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to Monday, 20th October, for the cross-examination of DW10.
