He explained that unending migration of citizens of the country resembles a “war zone situation”. He said he was very concerned and thus called for “swift and pragmatic” approach to resolve it.
According to Mr Sanyang, the country’s economy is in shambles, alleging that the blue economy (the sea) has been sold off to foreign nationals.
He frowned at the government for what he called “surely depending on loans” noting that increases the country’s debts. He accused the Barrow government for selling out lands to the real estate agents, while restricting the citizens of land ownership. “The Gambia will mirror the experience of Zimbabwe where land was nearly inaccessible to citizens as all have been grabbed by foreign nationals.”
Speaking further on the irregular migration crisis, Mr Sanyang revealed that the country has registered a significant number of deaths at sea, saying it is a clear justification of hardship Gambians face as a result of poor governance.
He accused the country’s leadership of failing to put right development strategies that can provide employment for young people and also to ensure financial independence and economic freedom for the citizens. He added that the resources of the country have not been fairly shared; it’s being controlled and exploited by those in power.
On education, Mr Sanyang lashed out at the government, saying that the education curriculum is not lucrative enough to prepare young people for lucrative jobs.
On health, Mr Sanyang added that the government is not pay attention to the dilapidated healthcare sector which he said has been left broken in the hands of the government.
He alleged that ministers and other high profile government officials would fly their families abroad to receive medical care while the ordinary Gambians are left to the mercy of abandoned health care facilities.
