Isatou Faal, a 21-year-old woman from Bundung in the Kanifing Municipality, was reportedly killed on Saturday after being stabbed to death at her workplace. Faal, who worked at Heewal Bureau de Change in Brusubi, is the second staff member of a Bureau de Change company to be killed.

Her death follows the killing of Fatoumatta Kargbo, a staff member of a Bureau de Change at Westfield, who was allegedly murdered by Haruna Tine, a Senegalese national. Tine is currently standing trial for murder before Justice Ebrima Jaiteh at the High Court in Banjul.

This latest incident has sparked widespread concern among Gambians both at home and abroad. Many have expressed alarm at the growing insecurity surrounding bureau de change operations. Calls have intensified for bureau owners to employ security personnel and install CCTV cameras at their premises. Others have urged the police to strengthen security measures across the country to prevent further tragedies.

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) in a statement issued on Saturday 20 December, reacted to the tragic incident.

The GPF statement reads:

“The Police in Brusubi are investigating an alleged stabbing incident that resulted in the death of a young woman at a forex bureau located at Brusubi Turntable on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

The body of the deceased has been conveyed to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

The public will be updated as investigations continue.”
