The association named after Dr Isatou
Touray dub ”Yerru Wa Kafo” Saturday embarked on a cleansing exercise at the
Bakau beach side.
Speaking after the exercise, Kujeh Touray,
president of the association, expressed happiness to the members for turning up
in their large numbers to clean the beach.
The beach side is widely used by many, and
some do go there for fishing, and is also a tourist destination as well.
She pointed out that they thought it
necessary to clean the beach before doing so elsewhere.
Abdou Touray, spokesperson of the group,
thanked Allah for making this day a successful one, and also thanked Dr Isatou
Touray, the mother of the association.
He said they are politically-oriented, but
environmental-friendly.
Touray noted that they formed the group
called “Yerru Wa Kafo” and informed Dr Isatou Touray about it, and she was
excited about naming the association after her.
“The reason for naming the association
after her is because we realised that she is ready to empower the youths,” he
said.
They selected public locations where people
benefit from, such as the market, health centre and the beach; then they made a
raffle and the beach won.
Touray appealed to the Kanifing Municipal
Council to provide them with trucks anytime they wish to conduct the cleansing
exercise.
He also appealed to public, private sector
and NGOs to help them with the cleansing materials.
Modou Lamin Gomez, a canoe owner, lauded
the initiative of “Yerru Wa Kafo” for their timely intervention, and expressed
dissatisfaction in the way the beach is being misused by people.
