Preparations for the 2014 Youth Olympic and Commonwealth Games are underway, says Peter Prom, president of the Gambia Table Tennis Association.
Mr Prom, who was speaking to Pointsport in an interview last Saturday, said they are working on meeting their target to participate in both the 2014 Youth Olympic and the Commonwealth Games.
The association, which just ended their open championship last year December, is working on developing the game from the grassroots, making it an attractive one.
The president said they are trying to develop both male and female youth, adding that they have already started meeting to organize a league and national championships from which they will be identifying talented players to represent The Gambia in the 2014 games.
Mr Prom said they received Table Tennis from the International Federation which some of them have been distributed to various schools.
Regarding the tables for the game, he said: “We want to ensure that any table given out is in good care, and we want to decentralize the game to all the regions but the decentralization will be in a gradual process.
“We are willing to share the tables but have to be at the right places within the country.”
