Real De Banjul FC on Saturday defeated Steve Biko FC by a goal to nil to register their second victory of GFA’s first Division League played at the Banjul Mini Stadium.
Bubacarr Trawally scored the only goal of the game for Real De Banjul in the 71st minute of the match.
Speaking to reporters shortly at the end of the match, Alagie Sarr, head coach of Real De Banjul, said they are taking their league games as part of their preparations for their upcoming CAF Champions League.
He said they made four changes to their team in their game against Steve Biko to give all their players the chance to show their talents so they could select a strong team for their CAF Champions League.
They have a target of making certain amount of points in the first round of the league, he said, adding that they want to win the league back again this season.
He also said they prepare very well for every game, adding that they had to start both Edrissa Sonko Faye and Alagie Bambo Fofana on the flanks because Steve Biko “have a strong defence line”.
Abdoulie Bojang, head coach of Steve Biko, said football is winning and loosing but that poor officiating contributed to their defeat.
“We have accepted the defeat and will prepare for our next game,” he said, stating that they can contest for the league and that beating Gamtel FC in their opening game shows they have the potentials.
“We want to improve as a team game in, game out,” he added, saying the combination of their strikers and flanks was good but they have to work on their finishing.
The goal they conceded was due to lack of concentration, he noted, saying their next game against Samger FC will not be easy but that they would prepare to come stronger in that game.
