Villages
have started stretching up their muscles for the 2017 Kombo South district
football tournament after the draw for the district biggest football fray was
held at the Kaira Su Federation Skills Centre in Sanyang
The
defending champions Kartong will be hoping to replicate their 2015 Kombo South
district football tournament performance, as they beat Tanji 1-0 in the final
to clinch their first-ever district crown at the Sanyang Football Field.
The
runners-up Tanji will target to win their games to increase their chances of
reaching the final as well as to keep their hopes of lifting their first-ever
Kombo South district football title after losing two finals in a row against Sifoe
1-0 in 2014 and Kartong on the same score-line in 2015.
Nyofelleh
and Banyaka, on the other hand, will both prepare well to put remarkable
performance to increase their hopes of reaching the final after the paired were
eliminated in the semifinal in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
Sanyang
are also among the villages preparing for the district’s biggest football
fiesta.
Sanyang
missed the last two Kombo South district football tournaments due to suspension
after failing to honour their 2012 Kombo South district football final against
Sifoe, at the Gunjur Nyamina Football Field.
The
Sanyang boys will endeavour to maintain perfect run of form in the tournament
to improve their hopes of qualifying for the quarterfinal as well as to keep
their dreams of landing their second Kombo South District Football tournament
title since clinching their first-ever district crown in year 2000.
Jambanjelly,
Mamuda, Jamburr, Bato-Kunku and Farato are all stretching up their muscles free
after their poor performance in the previous Kombo South district football
tournament.
Farato
beat Kartong on penalties after their goalless draw in the regulation in the
final to clinch the 2008 Kombo South District football tournament title
bankrolled by the country’s GSM Operator Gamcel.
Debutants
Madina Salaam and whipping boys Gunjur Kunkujang will vie to put their house in
order to improve their chances of reaching the quarterfinal after their poor
performance in the 2015 Kombo South district football tournament.
