The rappers are from different neighbourhoods in The Gambia, and the official list of contestants are: Yom G – Sierra Leonean,Baye Mbaye Mboob of Ebo Town, Hyper of Bakau, Cool Bax of Nema ,Ill Sick of Tabokoto, King Blaze of Latrikunda German, Krezzy Sagnia of Kanifing Estate, Promo Kid of Tabokoto, Rupey Mace of Brusubi, Burr Dally of Kololi,Yaya D Lyrical Lad of Tabokoto, Choi Le Petit of Serekunda , Chaat of Bundung , Venom Assassin of Bakau, Samou Star, a Senegalese of Kanifing Estate, and Harifina Haadi of Serekunda.
Killah Ace, the Chief Executive Officer ofStraight from Jupiter Entertainment, said the Street Rap Battle competition is aimed at inculcating the spirit of emceeing with young rappers nurturing them in becoming great song writers, with excellent rap techniques and stage presence confidence.
He recalled that in April 2013, its launch attracted 16 rappers from different parts of the country to compete on one stage for three months.
The ultimate prize was D10, 000 with a full mix tape package, but this year it will be D50, 000 with full mix tape, he said.
He added that this year, they aim to making it bigger by reaching more people through getting communities involved by having the various contestants to represent a community.
“This, we believe, will contribute to building grassroots hip hop and make communities rally behind their artistes more,” he said.
