The 2012-13 league champions, Steve Biko FC, and Samger FC have both been relegated to the second division league of the Gambia Football Federation, GFF, following their woeful performance during the national domestic league.
Both teams for the first time in their history will face demotion to the second tier league, where they will fight next season to ensure they regain their position in the first division league.
Despite both sides winning their final games of the league, they could not avoid the drop as fellow strugglers, Hawks FC, survived after also winning its final game of the season.
Steve Biko FC overcame the Gambia Armed Forces FC by 2-1 in their week twenty-one encounter played at the KG5 Mini Stadium in Banjul on Saturday, but the win did not save them from going down.
Samger FC on the same day at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama also hammered Interior FC 5-3, but could not survive the drop despite the win.
Hawks FC beat Banjul United 2-nil at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on the same day to maintain themselves in the top flight league.
