St Augustine Senior Secondary School on Tuesday benefited from a donation of sporting gears worth Thousands of Dalasi, at a ceremony held at the school grounds in Banjul. The donated items, which included shirts, trousers, athletic gears, among others, were done by Saint Augustine's Alumni Association USA Chapter.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Father Anthony Sonko, a representative of Saint Augustine Alumni Association US Chapter said the donation culminated from a discussion in December when members of the association visited the school and held discussions with the Principal.

According to him, upon their return to the US, they decided to respond to some of the needs of the school.

"It is this regard that I stand here to make a presentation to the school," adding that some work is also being done in the area of refurbishing school toilets and agricultural science lab.

For his part, Mr. Martin Gomez, the Principal of St Augustine Senior Secondary School expressed delight at the gesture, and noted that the donors have been very supportive to the school.

According to Principal Gomez, Saint Augustine being an old school has produced a good number of students who are now contributing positively to the country's development.

"We hope that the new partnership will grow from strength to strength," Gomez said, while encouraging other alumni associations, both in The Gambia and those in the Diaspora to emulate the alumni USA chapter.
