Barely two days before the most-talked about sports journalists association's annual award, meant to recognise and identify great sports men and women, who have been outstanding in the development and promotion of sports in the country in the past 12 months, members of the sports journalists association of The Gambia will on Saturday converge at the Friendship Hostel at the Independence Stadium for an award ceremony.
Dodou Bojang, the Chairman of the award committee of the sports journalists association of The Gambia delved into the criteria of the award.
Bojang, who works with Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) as a sports editor in an interview with this reporter, said the forthcoming award ceremony is already a success story, given the fact that all the nominated candidates are quite impressed with the procedures, as well as its criteria.
Bojang, who was speaking to Pointsport in this interview in Point office during the secret voting by the members of the association yesterday, said journalists have already voted for their choice of nominees.
"As you may probably know, there were 9 different categories, namely most outstanding local coach, referees (male and female) , football players (male and female), Athletics, Gambia Foreign Player of Year and Tennis (male and female) were voted by the members of the association in a secret ballot."
In the journalists' category, he explained "interested members were asked to present their reports, which they consider as the best, and there are criteria to look for stories presented, such as the caption, the language and other important issues within the story."
"Presenters' taps will be properly looked into as well," he pointed out.
Dodou said they are expecting 250 people and the attendance is strictly by invitation.
