The Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia’s proposed friendly game with the Serrekunda East Sports Committee has been shifted to Monday instead of Sunday as earlier reported.
The SJAG recently finalised a friendly match with their Serrekunda East counterparts in commemoration of the one-year charity of the demise of former colleague, sister and friend Fatou B.K. Mbye, who departed this world on 31 October 2010 after a prolonged illness.
The friendly scheduled to take place at the East Park will set the pace for the Annual Memorial Football Tournament to be staged in November in honour of Ms Mbye, whose contribution and promotion of sports in The Gambia is immeasurable.
The change of the date is as a result of the friendly match also scheduled for Sunday between the Gambia national U17 team and the Senegalese U17 team as part of preparations for the start of the final qualifying matches for Rwanda in 2011.
This prompted the two parties involved in the charity match to agree to shift the date to Monday to enable fans to witness Sunday’s test match at the country’s biggest football arena.
