As D2.9M Under Investigation
Karafa Sanneh, Siffoe Farm Manager, was yesterday arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates' Court on charges of giving false information, uttering false documents and operating without the proper licence.
He denied the charges.
Count one states that Karafa Sanneh in the year 2007 in Gunjur village and diverse places gave false information to one Lamin Sarr and Lamin Bayo that the State House instructed him to receive from them the sum of D30, 000 to pay the workers.
Count two states that Mr. Sanneh, on the same day, month and the year at Seyone village and diverse places gave false information to the villagers of Seyone that the 100 bags of sugar sent to the village should not be shared as instructed by State House, and that the amount brought was a mistake.
Count three states that Mr. Sanneh in the month of June 2009 at Sambuya sand mining site in Kombo South and diverse places fraudulently uttered a false document.
Count four states that in June 2005 in Sambuya village and diverse places Mr. Sanneh operated a company in the name of 'Sibintinto' without the approval of the Geology Department.
ASP Touray, prosecuting, told the court that the accused should not be granted bail for the reason that investigations are still ongoing. He adduced that they were still investigating into some D2.9 million allegedly derived from the sand mining activity, and if the accused is granted bail he might tamper with their investigations.
The presiding magistrate, Pa Harry Jammeh, decided to remand the accused in custody until the next adjourned date, 16th July 2009. Lawyer Lamin Jobarteh represented the accused.
