Spanish Gambia Academic Foundation (SGAF), a charitable organisation based in Spain, on Sunday donated an ambulance to Tanji Community Health Centre in Kombo South District.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony held at the Health Centre, the Alkalo of Tanji village, Cherno Bojang, applauded the donors for their "timely" intervention.
He said the new ambulance would be of great assistance to the health facility in meeting its mobility need. "It would also help in transporting patients to the major health centres," he said, and assured the donors that the ambulance "will be put into proper use".
He also used the opportunity to appeal to the donors and the public to give more helping hand to Tanji Health Centre.
Speaking on behalf of the donors, Lamin Jamba Jammeh, a partner to the donors, said the foundation was delighted at presenting an ambulance to the Tanji Health Centre.
"On 22 October 2010 the foundation will also present another ambulance to improve health service delivery in Kombo South and its environs, Mr Jammeh revealed, adding that the foundation is dedicated to supporting the health sector in the country."
