Mentereng Fitness Football tournament meant to raise funds for Brikama United’s
participation in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday kick-started at the
Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.
The
opening game featured the host Brikama and Gunjur United.
The
Sateyba boys thrashed South boys 3-1 in a thrilling opening game to snatch
their first win in the championship.
Brikama
opened the scores through striker Alieu Danso in the 33rd minute of the game
after missing several goal-scoring opportunities in the early part of the game.
Alieu
Jammeh’s second and third goals after the interval earned Brikama a resounding
win over their Gunjur counterparts. They also completed his brace to dash
Gunjur United’s hopes of coming back to their feet.
The
visitors’ responded back for an equalizer and managed to pull back one through
midfielder Omar Touray, which eventually proved to be a consolation goal for
Gunjur United.
Gunjur
United need to beat Brufut in their final group game on Wednesday to sail to the
semifinal after losing to Brikama in the opening game, but a will likely see
them out of the competition.
