The two-day event will be a platform for the already established artistes to mentor upcoming ones and to also showcase their works.

The founder of Face 2013 said her main goal has always been to boost The Gambian fashion industry.

“This time around, I want to give a push to the arts in general,” Awa Conateh said.

“I believe it is the backbone of every society and country and I feel we as artistes need better support in The Gambia. We need to give hope to the youths, educating, motivating and inspiring them in the arts.”

She said the event will provide an arts and entertainment setting, and feature well-known artistes such as Njogu Touray, mentoring other artistes and performances by Gambian musicians, such as Jali Madi at the Alliance Franco Gambienne on

Kairaba Avenue
.

Awa Conateh went further to explain that the event will continue to showcase artistes’ collections from paintings to fashion at Gaya Art Café in Senegambia and the networking event is to link artistes with buyers.

“This will also follow a musical jamboree to showcase the massive talent we have in The Gambia which is going to take place at Romana Hotel in Bakau,” she disclosed.

Awa Conateh said the objective of Face 2013 is to promote arts and culture, not just in a sense of historical heritage but as something that should be valued by society.

This will also provide motivation and coaching to young artistes, introducing them to become established artistes on the world stage and at home.
