Police nab alleged impersonator

One Kebba Jobarteh, a resident of Latrikunda German, was recently nabbed by the police for allegedly impersonating Babucarr Jobarteh, Deputy Chief of  Protocol at the Office of the President.

This was disclosed at a press conference held on Friday 24 September 2010 at the police headquarters in Banjul by police public relations officer Superintendent Sulayman Seck.

He said the suspect went to the Gambia Ports Authority, where he introduced himself to the personal secretary to the GPA Managing Director as Babucarr Jobarteh the deputy Chief of Protocol at the Office of the President, and that he wanted to the see the managing director, Momodou Lamin Gibba.

The secretary arranged for him to see the managing director, and the suspect introduced himself to Mr. Gibba as Babucarr Jobarteh, the deputy Chief of Protocol. He said that he needed 10 crates of can drinks.

MD Gibba asked the suspect to come back the following day, but travelled to Foni, leaving the crates of can drinks with the secretary for the suspect.

When the suspect came to collect the drinks, and the secretary communicated with her boss to confirm, who then told her that he was suspicious about the suspect, and instructed the secretary to call the port security to interrogate the suspect.

Among the people who interrogated the suspect was one Karamo Bakary Janneh, who knew the deputy Chief of Protocol.

The said Karamo Bakary Janneh then informed the Chief of Protocol, who said the suspect was fond of such acts.

Subsequently, the suspect was arrested and charged with impersonation, announced PRO Secka.
