Drivers arraigned for causing death of police officer

Two drivers were last Friday arraigned before the Brikama Magistrates' Court for causing the death of a police officer, one CPL Yunusa Bah.

The accused persons namely, Pa Baboucarr AR Njie and Momodou Bah are charged with rash and negligent act causing dead.

The duo were alleged to have caused the death of CPL Yunusa Bah, a police officer at Lamin village in the Western Region on 22 September 2010 while driving their respective vehicles.

Count one of the offence charged revealed that the accused persons, on 22 September 2010 at Lamin village in the Western Region, drove motor vehicles with registration number KM 6527 B and a truck with registration number BJL 3857 G respectively in a rash and negligent manner, thereby causing the death of CPL Yunusa Bah.

Count two stated that on the same date, year and place, the accused persons drove their respective vehicles without an efficient breaking system.

Count three read that on the same date, place and year, the accused person, Momodou Bah, drove a motor vehicle (truck) with registration number BJL 3857G without a driving licence.

Count four revealed that the accused person, Momodou Bah, on the same date, year and place, drove the said vehicle without an efficient breaking system.

Meanwhile, the first accused, Pa Babucarr Njie, denied count one, while the second accused, Momodou Bah, pleaded guilty to the charges.

They were granted bail each in the sum of D100,000 with Gambian surety.
