Obtaining money by false pretence lands man in court

A man called Alfred Davies was Wednesday arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with obtaining money by false pretence.

He denied the charge and was granted court bail of D2 million with two Gambian sureties.

He was also ordered to surrender his travelling documents to the court.

The case was then adjourned till 24 April 2012.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused, Alfred Davies, in 2011, in the Kanifing Municipality, by false pretence and with intent to defraud, obtained US$78,000 and D264,650 from one Alhagie Jarika Kabba under the pretext of selling a diamond stone to him, knowing the same to be false.

Norwegian National Convicted

Roger Petersen, a Norwegian national, was on Tuesday convicted and sentenced to a fine of D2,500, in default serve six weeks in prison with hard labour by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

He was convicted after he admitted to a charge of obstructing a police officer in the due execution of his duties.

The facts of the case as narrated before the court stated that it happened on 9 April 2012 at Cape Point.

It further stated that while the officer was on duty, the accused and his friend were in a vehicle and the officer demanded the particulars of the vehicle.

The facts further revealed that there was a push and pull between the officer and the accused, which led to the arrest of the accused and was taken to Bakau Police Station.
