Nigerian National on Charge of Obtaining Money by False Pretence

John Okafor, a Nigerian national, on Wednesday 22nd April 2009 arraigned before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates' Court for obtaining goods by false pretence contrary to section 2008 of the criminal code, cap 10 vol III laws of The Gambia.

According to particulars of the offence John Okafor between May and June 2007 at Brikama, Western Region, in the Republic of The Gambia, the accused with intent to defraud, proposed a business partnership to Mr. Beren or Leru Beek, a German National, thereby inducing him to deliver an amount of D132,187.00 to a Chinese Printing Ink Company for the purchase of printing plates on false pretexts. When the charge was read to him the accused pleaded not guilty. He was remanded at the Central Prison until the next adjourned date.
