Man convicted for willful damage to property

A man called Babucarr Jallow was Wednesday convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5,000 in default to serve three months in prison.

Babucarr Jallow who was found liable for willful damage to property, was also ordered to compensate the complainant with D2,000, within 14 days.

The facts of the case as narrated by the prosecuting officer, CPL 1542 Mendy stated that it happened on 25 March 2013, at Manjai Kunda, near the football field.

He said the convicted person pretended to be drunk and started to insult one Sarjo Jallow who works in a garage, adding that when the said Sarjo Jallow got to know that the accused was not joking, he rushed to the Manjai Police Station to report the matter.

According to the prosecutor, when the police officers arrived at the garage, they found the accused had broken a side screen glass of one of the vehicles.

The accused was arrested, cautioned and charged with the offence committed, he said.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused, Babucarr Jallow, on 25 March 2013, at Manjai Kunda, in the Kanifing Municipality, willfully damaged the side door glass of a motor vehicle with the registration number BJL 3983G, valued at D2,500.
