Man arraigned for theft

One Halifa Samba was recently arraigned before magistrate Nying of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, charged with two counts of housebreaking and stealing.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was granted a court bail in the sum of D3, 000, with a Gambian surety.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, the accused, Halifa Samba on 9th March 2010, at Fajara unlawfully broke into the house of one Bigitt Hatman.

Count two stated that the accused Halifa Samba on the same date and place stole from the house of the said Bigitt Hatman the following items: 32 inches plasma TV, valued at D20, 000, gas tank, valued at D950, mobile phone, marked T5, valued at D3,000 and D800 cash.

The police prosecutor, 1st Class 2118 Gomez applied for an adjournment to enable him call his witnesses. He told the court that he was not objecting to the bail.

The case was adjourned to 26 April 2010.
