The warm-up game was part of the Gambia National U-20’s preparations for the 2015 Africa U-20 Youth Championship qualifiers away to Liberia U-20 on Sunday 6 April 2014, at the Samuel Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia.
The Gambia National U-20 team, who thumped the Gambia Local-based National team 2-0 in the first warm-up game played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium last week courtesy of Madi Fatty’s brace opened the score through Real De Banjul creative midfielder Bubacarr Trawally alias Steve, in the 16th minute of the game from an astonishing strike from Ali Sowe’s brilliant efforts, to give the Gambia U-20 the lead.
The Gambia Local-based team fought back quickly for an equalizer and levelled the score through prolific striker Amadou Baldeh in the 63rd minute of the game to cancel out Bubacarr Trawally’s 16thminute astonishing strike to share the spoils.
The Gambia National U-20 team will leave Banjul for Monrovia today, to clash with Liberia U-20 in the first leg of the 2015 Africa U-20 Youth Championship Qualifier on Sunday 6 April 2014, at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia.
The Gambia have qualified for Africa U-20 Youth Championship twice. In 2007 it was hosted in Congo Brazzaville, where they won bronze medal after beating Zambia U-20 3-1 in the third place play-off, and the 2011 African U-20 Youth championship hosted in South Africa but were eliminated in the group stage following their dismal performance.
Gambia made their debut in FIFA U-20 World Cup hosted in Canada in 2007 but were eliminated in the second round by Austria 2-1and failed to qualify for the 2013 African U-20 Youth Championship after losing to Morocco U-20 4-0 in the qualifiers.
It would be recalled that the Gambia U-20 team at the weekend defeated the Senegalese premier league Cassa Sport 1-0 in an international friendly game played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium courtesy of talisman Madi Fatty in the 51st minute clinical finish.
