A-two-day junior and intermediate volleyball tournament organised by the Gambia Volleyball Association (GVBA) on Sunday concluded at the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) Volleyball Lawn in Jeshwang.
The tournament was computed between four junior and four intermediate volleyball academies, namely Banjul Volleyball Academy, Jeshwang Volleyball Academy, Serrekunda East Volleyball Academy and Brikama Volleyball Academy.
Jeshwang Volleyball Academy emerged as winners in the junior category after defeating Banjul Volleyball Academy, while Brikama Volleyball Academy won the intermediate category after beating Serrekunda East Volleyball Academy.
Bai Dodou Jallow, secretary general of the GVBA, said the tournament was part of an ongoing development programme for young people in volleyball to develop their talents.
“This is the third time the tournament is being organised,” he said, adding that the first one was held in Serrekunda East and the second in Banjul.
The next competition will be held in Brikama on 17 and 18 February 2012.
Mr Jallow also took the opportunity to encourage the young to start playing the game at a younger age.
The competition was graced by the president of the GVBA, executive members of his committee and the community of Jeshwang and Greater Banjul.
