The Judiciary won two trophies at the end of the 2nd edition of the Sports for Health competition last weekend at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.
They won the football and musical chair competitions to grab the lion’s share in last weekend show.
The Civil Service also grabbed the athletics competition trophy while the Executive emerged the winners of the tug of war challenge.
However, the Politicians emerged as the best team that participated.
Speaking to reporters during the competition, Youth and Sports Minister Alieu K. Jammeh expressed his delight over the event, saying the initiative does not only ensure a body exercise but also brings people together and creates friendship among the people.
“To ensure a wealthy nation you need to have a healthy body which will accommodate a healthy mind,” he said.
He reveals that all the arms of the government do have a common objective to develop the nation and further urged all the people to be one to construct a healthy and wealthy nation.
Talking about the significance of the initiative, Interior Minister Ousman Sonko says that if one does not have a healthy body he or she would find it difficult to deliver up to expectations.
Minister Sonko also said that national development is a collective responsibility which also involves sport.
KMC Mayor Alhagie Yankuba Colley, in his remarks, said: “We should see ourselves as one and we should emulate our parents’ footsteps who lived as one family.”
