In Medical Drug Case, Suspects Maintain Innocence

Following the police prosecutor Cadet Inspector Keita substitution of the new charge sheet, the accused persons Ebrima Jeng and Mbye Jeng still maintain their innocence on the allegations.

The accused persons are now standing trial on a charge of receiving stolen property unlawfully obtained, at the Banjul Magistrates' Court before Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai.

According to the particulars of the alleged offence, the accused persons on 23rd March 2009 at Tabacco Road and No.14 New Street in the city of Banjul, received the following items, nine cartons of pharmaceutical drugs (capotil 25mg) valued at D27,000, thirty-seven (37) boxes of surgical sutures valued at D22,000, one carton of I.V cannular valued at D10,000, one carton of lidocaine valued at D2000 and Sixteen boxes of "Depo provera" contraceptive injections valued at D5000. All totalling at D66,000 from Sarjo Dampha of the RVTH store.

The case was adjourned to 22nd April 2009.
