Bantaba FC on Wednesday defeated S.V. Laar FC by 4-3 on post-match penalty shootout to qualify to the quarterfinals of the Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation (SESDO) Nawetan competition.
This followed their goalless draw encounter played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium in their round of sixteen game of the Nawetan tournament.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Lamin Jammeh, better known as Dugal, said he was happy with the win and that they prepared well for the game because they lost to S.V. Laar FC and that this was a revenge for them.
He added that they would prepare well for both their knockout and Nawetan games, while thanking fans of the team.
Ensa Tamba, head coach of S.V. Laar FC, said they lost the game but played very well and also created various chances.
He added that they created various chances but could not capitalize on them which led the game to post-match penalty kicks.
He also said that his side were unlucky during the penalty kicks but would appreciate the outcome of the game.
“We have the youngest team in the Serrekunda East Nawetan competition,” he said, adding that their players are scouted from the Academy to the Nawetan competition.
“Football is luck because you can play better and end up being on the losing side,” he added.
He also said they would continue to prepare both mentally and tactically for their knockout trophy game since they have been eliminated from the Nawetan competition.
“Let the fans be patient because football is win or loss but this does not mean everything is over for us because we are still in the knockout trophy,” he concluded.
