This appreciation has come following the Gambian government’s expression of regret at what it called the “bizarre” attitude of the Government of Guinea Conakry in failing to acknowledge receipt through diplomatic channels of the sum of US$500,000 it remitted to Guinea in September this year, to help the country contain the Ebola epidemic.
The message of appreciation sent through Guinea’s foreign minister Lusainou Faal stated:“It was with great pleasure that we received your note through which the Government of The Gambia made a considerable contribution towards our country’s fight against the deadly Ebola virus.
“In this effect, allow me to seize this auspicious occasion to convey to you on behalf of the Guinean government and most particularly, His Excellency Professor Alpha Conde, President of the Republic’s warmest thanks and appreciation.
“This generous contribution is testimony to the solidarity manifested by The Gambia at a time when Guinea is collaborating with the international community to eradicate this terrible human catastrophe.”
