Gambian Armed Forces Beat Nigeria Face Senegal on Today

The Gambia Armed Forces Football team made a perfect start in the ongoing WALO Championship on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over the Super Soldiers of Nigeria.

In a hard fought game played at the Stade of the 28 September in Conakry show the Nigerian team coming twice behind to level the score but finally succumbed to a well determined Armed Forces team.

Buba Samaput Armed Forces ahead just  35 seconds after the kick off of the game but the Super Soldiers equalized in the 22 through Lalah Yacinth; But two minutes later Modou Gaye netted the second goal for Armed Forces on a powerful header.

The Nigerians fought back again and levelled the scores in the 36 minutes through Benjamin Blus.

The first half ended 2-2 at the disappointment of Coach Alhagie Sey and backup technicians:

But the message from the dressing room at half time motivated the Khaki Boys and just 10 minutes into the second half Buba Sama netted the third goal for Armed Forces, his second in the game.

The Nigerians fought very hard for the equaliser but the Armed Forces defence watched carefully up to the final whistle of central referee Bangura of Guinea.

Meanwhile Armed Forces will return to action today Monday April 6, 2009 against Senegal for their second game.

It could berecalled that 8 teams are taking part in the 3rd edition of the West African Liaison Office-WALO-championship sponsored by the President of Mali: H E Amadou Toumani Toure.

The Gambia Armed Forces are in Group B along side Nigeria, Mali and Senegal while the Group A is made of host Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Burkina Faso:

In the other games of Group A played on Friday, Guinea thrashed Sierra Leone 5-0 while Burkina beat Ghana 2-0.
