The 7th Edition of the National Open Water Swimming Championship organised by the Gambia Swimming Association is scheduled to take place on Saturday 6 May 2017 in Barra, North Bank Region at 11am.

The swimming race will be contested in two categories; 1.5KM for the junior swimmers and 3KM for the seniors. Scholarships will be awarded to the best junior swimmers at the end of the championship.

The event aims to promote, encourage and develop open water swimming in all seven regions of the country, as well as boost the morale of, and instill confidence and courage in, young swimmers.

According to the technical director of the Gambia Swimming Association Arfang Jobe, the regional competition will provide an opportunity for specialised marathon swimmers to compete using standardised FINA Open Water competition rules and regulations, expanding the membership of the association to all seven regions “in anticipation of creating mass participation in swimming”.

Concluding, he called on all interested parties to contact the North Bank regional swimming coordinator on 9957093 or 7666990 for registration.
