The Gambia Police Force collected as many as 281 points to lift the first organised 22 July inter-service athletic championship title, which wrapped up at the Independence Stadium in Bakau last Sunday.
The Gambia Police Force, according to 800-metre distance runner who also doubles as the Head Coach of the 2009 July 22nd inter-service athletic champion, Abdoulie Darboe have succeeded in uplifting the annual Gamstar sponsored athletic championship for third successive year.
The Immigration department's duo Inspector cadet Muhammed Phatty and Cpl Isatou Touray, last Thursday spoke to our reporter about their department's possibility of clinching the championship but their dreams could not come true after registering a total of 239 points, 42 adrift of the champions, the Gambia Police Force.
The Gambia Armed Forces who secured a total of 245 points occupied the third spot, while The Gambia Fire Rescue Services who spent the better of the one-day athletic championship struggling at the bottom of the table collected only 47 points.
Other voluntary institutions or departments that took part in the championship included K.M.C, Albreda, Amdalai, Schools, Brikama and individual participants.
