Solifo FC were last Saturday emerged the champions of Gunjur Super Cup after beating mighty Gamcel FC 2-1 in a final game, played at Gunjur Football Pitch.
The tightly contested game was totally dominated and controlled by Solifo FC in the opening 15th minute of the game and created lots of scoring opportunities in front of Gamcel FC goal mouth, but they failed to capitalised on their opportunities.
Gamcel FC opened the score sheet in the 18th minute, through powerfu striker Yusupha Barrow, alias Beckham Senior from a close range shoot. Solifo FC though fought back and put pressured on Gamcel FC defence line, and their efforts paid dividend in the 25th minute when the young promising winger Pa Abdoulie Jammeh, alias Beckham Junior leveled the tally after capitalising on Gamcel FC goalkeeper's errors and the first ended 1-1.
In the resumption of the second half, Solifo FC who were totally in control of the first half continued their supremacy by launching a series of counter attacks in their opponents' half and miss lot of chances in front of Gamcel FC goal mouth, while striker Nabi Darboe sealed for Solifo FC in the 62nd minute of play from a close range shoot.
As the champion, Solifo FC were awarded the champions trophy and a cash prize of D 3000.00, while Gamcel FC received D 2000.00 as the runners-up.
Meanwhile, the Nawettan proper will kick-off today Tuesday 28th July 2009, between Late Ismaila FC and Arsenal FC, while on Wednesday 29th July, Cathy will entertain Gunjur Project FC.
In a similar development, Sainey Manneh a native of Gunjur and a former of Hawks FC residing in abroad recently donated a trophy to Gunjur Youth and Sports Development Association as part of his contribution towards the development of sports in Gunjur, particularly football.
