The
Gambia have started intensive training for the 2017 WAFU Zone football
championship to be hosted in Ghana next month.
The
Gambia local-based Scorpions under the guidance of coach Omar Sise, assisted by
Abdoulie Bojang, are currently embarking on massive training at the FIFA Goal
Project in Old Yundum to prepare themselves physically fit for the sub-regional
football championship next month.
The
Gambia are set to clash with the host Ghana in the opening on 9 September 2017.
Coach
Omar Sise guided The Gambia to the WAFU championship final against Senegal in
2015, but the home-based Scorpions were disqualified from the championship
after failing to honour a penalty shootout against the Taranga Lions, after
their goalless draw in the regulation time in the final played in Saint Louis.
The
2017 WAFU football championship is bankrolled by Fox to be hosted in Ghana from
9 to 24 September 2017.
