The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with the office of the First Lady and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education informs the general public that there will be a vaccination campaign of adolescent girls in the West Coast Region against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which causes cervical cancer.

The campaign will be launched by the First Lady Zeinab Jammeh today 14th November 2014 in Brikama.

It will target all Grade 3 girls and their peers outside school in the West Coast Region.

Each girl will receive two (2) dose injections of the HPV vaccine at six months interval, and the vaccination teams will be based at fixed locations such as schools, health centres and community bantabas.

In order to reach out to every girl child within the target population in the West Coast Region, community participation and involvement is crucial, the release added.

The office of the First Lady is, therefore, soliciting the support and cooperation of the Governor, district chiefs, ward councilors, alkalolu and lady councillors in informing and encouraging their communities to fully participate in this campaign, by providing their children for vaccination.

The office reaffirms its commitment through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in improving the health of children in The Gambia through the provision of quality, affordable and accessible health care services, according to the release.
