According
to reliable sources reaching The Point, Dr Isatou Touray, the independent
presidential candidate, has pulled out from the opposition coalition to select
one flag-bearer for the December 1st presidential polls.
The
sources added that Dr Touray did not send on Sunday her seventy delegates nor
did she turnout for the convention.
When
this paper contacted one of her close associates, she said: “We will make our
position known today at a press conference.”
Dr
Touray announced on 2 September 2016 that she would run for the presidency.
It
should be recalled that Yusupha Jaiteh, deputy leader of the Gambia Democratic
Congress (GDC), said recently that his party would not join the coalition to
participate in the convention.
He
further said seventy delegates for each party would be “detrimental” to his
party.
He
prefers the convention be open to everyone to select the flag-bearer of the
coalition.
