Deyda Hydara, the late co-proprietor and managing editor of The Point Newspaper who was gunned down on December 16th2004 will on Thursday October 16thbe honoured by the West African Journalists' Association with a post humours Lifetime Achievement Award at a cocktail reception at the Kairaba Beach Hotel.
According to a statement issued the Gambia Press Union (GPU), Deyda Hydara, who was a founder member and first treasurer of the West African Journalist Association (WAJA), will be the first recipient of this prestigious award.
The award, the statement added, a commendation of Deyda's bravery, beliefs and unwavering pursuance of the truth and the cardinal principles of his profession- journalism - is symbolic of the struggle for press freedom and freedom of expression across Africa.
