Court orders Psychiatric test for accused person

Magistrate Dago of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently ordered one Abdou Jallow, an accused person, to be taken to a psychiatric hospital for a medical test as to ascertain  his mental status.

According to the magistrate, he observed the accused’s demeanour during the trial, as he behaved funnily in court, and ordered him to be taken to a psychiatric hospital for a checkup.

He said if the accused was found to be fit, he should pay a compensation of D25,000 in default he would serve two months in prison with hard labour.

The accused, Abdou Jallow, was arraigned alongside three others on a theft charge.

However, his co-accused persons were acquitted and discharged of the charge.

According to the charge sheet read in court, in September 2012 at Serrekunda in the Kanifing Municipality, he stole D70,000 being the property of one Swaibou Jallow.
