Scorpions
Coach Tom Saintfiet and Gambia Football Federation (GFF) President Lamin Kaba
Bajo are winding up their visits to European based Gambian players plying their
trades in the European Leagues.
The
trip continues on Sunday with a visit to Gambian born Saidy Janko at
Switzerland playing for Young Boys Bern.
Saintfiet
and Bajo earlier kicked off the trip in Italy last week where they met mid
fielder Ebrima Darboe at AS Roma before proceeding to see with Musa Juwara and
Musa Barrow at FC Bologna.
Darboe
19 is one of the few teenagers and only Gambian at the AS Roma Primavera Squad.
Saintfiet
and Bajo visited the lad at his club in Rome on Tuesday 2 and later watched him
on training at mid-week. Darboe’s Coach Alberto De Rossi had spoken very well
of the young Gambian noting his dedication and passion for football.
“He
is a good player, and helps the club in the competition”.
He
praised Darboe for his commitment and said the youngster has a bright future.
Darboe
was born in 2001 and plays for AS Roma Primavera Squad. He was once featured
for his side’s A team against AC Milan.
Saintfiet
had earlier in 2019 visited 23 year old Leon Juwara at FC Utrecht in Holland as
part of his routine to visit Gambian players and Gambian decent in Europe.
The
youngster had spells with all of Germany Youth teams before featuring for
Werder Bremen and Kaiserslautern. Leon
had made his intentions to soon play for the Gambia after his engagement with
the Scorpions Coach.
The
Scorpions coach and GFF President Bajo have joined forces to meet with the
Gambian players across Europe ahead of the resumption of the qualifiers for the
Africa Cup of Nations 2021 in March where the Gambia will make a double header
away to Gabon and at home in March. The scouting team on Friday also met
Scorpions defender and Striker Pa Modou Jagne and Assan Ceesay shortly before
made a move to VLF Osnabruck to Germany on loan.
The
Scorpions ace will be with the Bundesliga 2nd tier side until the end of the
season. Assan joined FC Zurich in 2018 from Swiss Super League side FC Lugano.
Torres will be with the North West German side until his loan term with VLF
Osnabruck in July 2022.
Winding
up their tour across Europe, Saintfiet and President Bajo on Sunday visited
Saidy Janko, who played for all Swiss National Youth sides. The 24 year old
Janko also featured for Manchester United. Celtic, Nottingham Forest, St
Etienne and FC Porto in Portugal.
