Coach Saintfiet, GFF prexy Bajo visits Gambian player Saidy Janko

Scorpions Coach Tom Saintfiet and Gambia Football Federation (GFF) President Lamin Kaba Bajo are winding up their visits to European based Gambian players plying their trades in the European Leagues.

The trip continues on Sunday with a visit to Gambian born Saidy Janko at Switzerland playing for Young Boys Bern.

Saintfiet and Bajo earlier kicked off the trip in Italy last week where they met mid fielder Ebrima Darboe at AS Roma before proceeding to see with Musa Juwara and Musa Barrow at FC Bologna.

Darboe 19 is one of the few teenagers and only Gambian at the AS Roma Primavera Squad.

Saintfiet and Bajo visited the lad at his club in Rome on Tuesday 2 and later watched him on training at mid-week. Darboe’s Coach Alberto De Rossi had spoken very well of the young Gambian noting his dedication and passion for football.

“He is a good player, and helps the club in the competition”.

He praised Darboe for his commitment and said the youngster has a bright future.

Darboe was born in 2001 and plays for AS Roma Primavera Squad. He was once featured for his side’s A team against AC Milan.

Saintfiet had earlier in 2019 visited 23 year old Leon Juwara at FC Utrecht in Holland as part of his routine to visit Gambian players and Gambian decent in Europe.

The youngster had spells with all of Germany Youth teams before featuring for Werder Bremen and Kaiserslautern.  Leon had made his intentions to soon play for the Gambia after his engagement with the Scorpions Coach.

The Scorpions coach and GFF President Bajo have joined forces to meet with the Gambian players across Europe ahead of the resumption of the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 in March where the Gambia will make a double header away to Gabon and at home in March. The scouting team on Friday also met Scorpions defender and Striker Pa Modou Jagne and Assan Ceesay shortly before made a move to VLF Osnabruck to Germany on loan.

The Scorpions ace will be with the Bundesliga 2nd tier side until the end of the season. Assan joined FC Zurich in 2018 from Swiss Super League side FC Lugano. Torres will be with the North West German side until his loan term with VLF Osnabruck in July 2022.

Winding up their tour across Europe, Saintfiet and President Bajo on Sunday visited Saidy Janko, who played for all Swiss National Youth sides. The 24 year old Janko also featured for Manchester United. Celtic, Nottingham Forest, St Etienne and FC Porto in Portugal.
